Brainerd Lakes Area
Weekly Fishing Report:
July 1, 2009
It's hard to believe that we are in July
with temperatures all week being in the 70's and some days not
reaching about the mid 60's. Water temperatures sure dropped,
which I hope the baitfish will also drop down and maybe the key
to catching more walleyes around the lakes area. During that
rapid warm up, there were large schools of baitfish, that we
either suspended over deep water or where up in the weeds on
most area lakes. This kept the most of the fish up in the weeds
making them more difficult to catch and bite. You were able to
catch a few walleyes by dragging Lindy Rigs in the less dense
weeds, but pitching a jig and minnow was a lot easier to pull
through. Despite the low walleye activity hear directly in the
Brainerd area, Leech and Mille Lacs has been kicking out a few
fish and guides are making the travels to those lakes for
customers that want to get out and catch some walleye. If action
is what you are looking for, bass and panfish has been very
good. Crankbaits, Jig/Worm or casting spinnerbaits in the
cabbage has been a lot fun. Panfish have been in the same area
with small leeches on a slip bobber in 8' - 14' in the same
area.
